ANTOINE L. MEDLEY - Executive Director/Founder
What is the state of young black boys/men in America
?
What can be done to help change their current state into a
positive one? Well the
first thing I think we as African American Men should do is ask
ourselves, “Are the young boys in our communities being prepared
to become the Future Black Men of America?”
If you answered no then you probably see gaps that are not
being filled to help our young black boys/men develop into the
Future Black Men of America. My
name is Antoine Medley and I am the founder of Future
Black Men of America, Inc. This
organization was founded to help young black boys/men realize their
potentials. Young men
without dreams and ambitions can be detrimental to themselves and to
our society as a whole. We
must expose these young brothers to positive things and let them see
first hand that they can succeed in this world but they must first
be able to dream it. The young boys/men today need role models that
can relate to their situations and they must have positive Black Men
in their lives that will set positive examples.
I was raised in
Halifax
,
VA
and I was blessed to have my father and mother in my home.
My dad set a good example for me and he inspired me to do
positive things. My dad
is no college-educated man but he still used what he had from his
life’s experiences to teach me that there was more out there for
my 3 brothers and I besides quick dirty money.
He taught us that a good education is a very powerful weapon
that would help us in our everyday fight as Black Men.
I truly thank him for that and I know my brothers do also.
I went on to graduate from Halifax
County
Sr.
High
School
(’89) and went further to graduate from Virginia Tech (’94) with
a BA in Economics. Two of my brothers served in the United States
Navy and my youngest brother is in his last year at
Virginia
State
University.
At times I sit and think about how we managed to get to where
we are today and each time I come back to the positive influence my
dad had on us. My
organization Future Black Men of America, Inc. (FBMA) was
created to give back that positive influence to young black boys/men
(ages 10-17 years old) that need it.
FBMA wants to expose young boys/men to positive Black
Men that are acting productively in society.
We will stress education to the young men, but our main goal
is to help the young boys/men learn that they can be honest and
productive in society. Society
seems to have a fear of young black boys/men because of negative
stereotypes and we need to change that fear.
We want to teach the brothers not to fall into the
stereotypical traps that are out there.
I know that with your help FBMA can become the vehicle that
many young brothers use to drive down that positive and productive
road of life. In closing, I implore all of you positive Black
Men to get involved in our cause and let’s help these young
brothers become our Future Black Men of America.
It's up to us as Black Men to make a difference.
"The most noble thing one can do is act in the best interest of
ones community." Black men, let's stand up and do the noble
thing and give back to our young men. God
Bless you.
